The fish is listed as endangered on IUCN Red List.

Where can we find this tiger of fishes ?

This incredible fish exists in himalayan ranges of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Existing in fast-moving waters the fish has its natural habitat in hill streams with rocky and stony substrates. The temprature ranges mahseer resides in  50 to 25o celcius. Due to conservation efforts the fish was put in lakes and large reservoirs.
